Phishing Attacks: How to Recognise and Avoid them

In the first quarter of 2016 Phishing attacks increased 250% and over the year 85% of all companies were targeted. Many get fooled. It has cost millions and millions of dollars.

Phishing attacks can be very sophisticated and even deceive IT professionals, but many can be recognised with experience. You should try to learn about them as they may seriously affect your business and private life as well as costing you money.

While you must have anti-virus and spam software, don’t think that you are immune to all attacks. Phishing is different and targets people rather than software. The main advice from me is “Don’t trust anyone or anything!”. If in doubt, don’t open that suspect email or file, and hang up on that bogus sounding phone call.
